Site investigations and big foundation works in Onne, Nigeria

19 marzo 2025

ENSER geologists Andrea Mastrangelo and Eleonora Cappoia have completed the site visit for the rehabilitation project of some berths at the Federal Lighter Terminal (FLT2) in Onne, Rivers State, Nigeria). The berths consist of a 1000m-long jetty affected by corrosion of front sheet piles wall, loss of fine material and severe sinking of paving slabs in the quay apron area. Inland and nearshore investigations (BH and CPT) have been assigned to Trevi Foundations Nigeria Ltd and are ongoing to build up a comprehensive geological and geotechnical model.

A visit of construction site of Meliora Methanol Free Zone Enterprise (MMFZE), at Federal Ocean Terminal, was scheduled as well. There a new jetty, soil improvement and other special foundation works designed by ENSER are being realized on a wide reclaimed area with several solutions (CFA piles, driven piles, bored piles, diaphragm walls and jet grouting).

An outstanding experience about big geotechnical works and about understanding the geology of Niger Delta!
